The Force Awakens: Watch BB-8 go from Sketch to the Big Screen
BB-8 is arguably the most adorable and beloved new character from the Star Wars universe. His inclusion in Star Wars: The Force Awakens provided many fun and lighthearted moments in a film that would have been much darker without him…

StarWars.com has recently added a brand-new video to their library, detailing the hunble beginnings of one astromech droid…and no, I’m not talking about Artoo (although I still love that tincan). BB-8 captured the hearts of Star Wars fans everywhere, from the first moment he rolled across the screen in the very first Star Wars: The Force Awakens teaser back in 2014. And now, thanks to a video with insight from J.J. Abrams and Neal Scanlan, we can see how that rolling ball of fun got his start.
BB-8: From Sketch to Screen – A Star Wars: The Force Awakens Featurette
I love how BB-8’s co-stars Oscar Isaac (Poe Dameron), John Boyega (Finn), and Daisy Ridley (Rey), all treat the little droid as if he’s a real person. In fact, as the video states, Ridley acted out her first The Force Awakens scenes with BB-8.
With two more films to go in the sequel trilogy, and a possible plethora of Star Wars stand-alones and spin-offs available, I’m sure we will see much more of BB-8 and the crazy adventures and trouble he gets into. The big-screen isn’t the only place we’ll be seeing BB-8, as a new Marvel Star Wars comic series — Poe Dameron — was announced, and of course BB-8 will be by his human’s side, much like R2 and Luke.
BB-8 is the new generation of Star Wars droid, but let’s not forget our old pals R2-D2 and C-3PO, as hopefully we will get to see them all team up in some fashion, in future films.
