Bob Iger Confirms 4 Star Wars Films Past The Force Awakens and Promises More

In a recent interview with BBC, Disney CEO Bob Iger confirmed that there would in fact be four more Star Wars films off the heels of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, with more promised, on the way…

More from Dork Side of the Force

Disney CEO Bob Iger recently sat down with BBC Newsbeat and talked about Disney’s extremely successful foray into Lucasfilm and more importantly, the Star Wars franchise. Confirming that there would be four more Star Wars films past The Force Awakens, Iger listed the films:

  • Star Wars: Episode VIII
  • Star Wars: Episode IX
  • Rogue One: A Star Wars Story
  • Han Solo: A Star Wars Story

He then promised there would indeed be more:

"“There are five Star Wars films – four more with Episode VII: The Force Awakens – that are in varying stages of development and production. There will be more after that, I don’t know how many, I don’t know how often.”"

Newsbeat did ask Iger about the rumored Boba Fett Star Wars film, but Iger apparently had no comment. When one thinks about the possibilities for Star Wars films, past Episode IX, the sky really is the limit. Many Star Wars fans would love to see a film trilogy based on the Expanded Universe story of the Knights of the Old Republic, and Revan in particular.

In fact, The Old Republic is a veritable galaxy of stories that Disney could tap into, when looking for films. While they will most certainly want to expand the stories of our new heroes — Rey, Finn, Poe and BB-8 — past Episode IX, there are other grand and exciting tales to tell outside what is now considered official Star Wars canon.

We want to hear from you. What kind of Star Wars film would you like to see get made, past Star Wars: Episode IX? Let us know in the comments and on social media.
