Why yes, I do believe that was the sound of a million shippers crying out and then silence as they all faint dead away. Over the weekend, John Boyega, who walked away with the EE Rising Star Award at the BAFTAs, was cornered backstage to talk about the next installment of the Star Wars franchise. And according to what he told the RadioTimes, every last fantasy slash fic that fans have been dreaming of since FN-2187 met a dashing Resistance fighter pilot in The Force Awakens might just be true. All of it.
“…as far as I’m concerned, when JJ sat us down to go through the script, it was a bromance,” he continued. “But now I’m learning what Mark Hamill said before when he didn’t know that Darth Vader was Luke’s father: you never know what they’re going to pull. I’m looking at the director Rian closely so he can get me involved early, so I can prepare myself. So who knows?”
You never do know do you? Could Star Wars first on screen same sex romance be on the horizon? For those few hysterics who tryied (and spectacularly failed) to boycott the new Star Wars because the two leads were not white or male enough, this would mark another milestone in the franchise, as well as staking out a claim to be the most diverse of the big budget major motion picture franchises by several orders of magnitude.
Let the Force be with them. Always.
