Is Dave Filoni Bringing Thrawn to Star Wars Rebels?

Executive producer of Star Wars Rebels, Dave Filoni, has just dropped a teaser on Twitter that has set the Star Wars fandom on fire, and caused all eyes to look to the Star Wars Celebration in Europe…

Dave Filoni has reserved his place in the pantheon of Star Wars creators, alongside George Lucas himself, Lawrence Kasdan, and Timothy Zahn. To say that he’s made a significant impact on the overall story of Star Wars — starting with The Clone Wars and now with Star Wars Rebels — is a massive understatement.

So, when  Filoni drops a teaser on his Twitter regarding the upcoming Star Wars Celebration Europe, and when he uses the words: “And remember, there’s always a bit of truth in legends,” with the photo of the binding of a well-worn Star Wars novel, you tend to sit-up and take notice.

As you can see, the book looks to have seen its fair share of readings, and the Star Wars community definitely noticed that little detail.

Reddit user osantan02 from the Star Wars Leaks subreddit posted a photo of the binding of Timothy Zahn’s novel, Heir to the Empire.

At this point, it is literally impossible to tell which Star Wars novel Filoni is teasing in his tweet, but if he is in fact bringing in a Star Wars Legend (formerly Extended Universe) character to Star Wars Rebels, then Timothy Zahn’s Grand Admiral Thrawn would make the most sense.

However, there is one more Star Wars Legend that could make an appearance in Rebels, and that’s the character of Revan.

With the Star Wars Rebels Season 2 finale showing young Ezra still in possession of the Sith Holocron from the planet Malachor (a planet that Revan fought an infamous battle on), then it is possible to bring the fallen Jedi, turned Sith Lord, turned Jedi savior, turned Gray Jedi onto the show, in the form of a holocron image that would impart some type of Force knowledge to Ezra.

For now, we will have to wait until July 15 – 17 for the Star Wars Celebration Europe, to find out more from Filoni and company. And, until then, I’m sure the speculation will run rampant. I for one would be happy with either character.
