Pablo Hidalgo is part of the Lucasfilm story group and the perfect choice for The Last Jedi Visual Dictionary…

Lucasfilm recently announced that Pablo Hidalgo, a writer and Lucasfilm Story Group member for Star Wars, was given the task of compiling the visual dictionary for Episode VIII. Hidalgo showed his excitement on twitter, with Rian Johnson showing support for him as well.

Published by DK (Dorling Kindersley) like every other visual guide, it is set to release the date that The Last Jedi drops on December 15th, 2017.

In the past, the visual guides were available about a month or so before past Star Wars film releases, however, starting with The Force Awakens, the visual guides now come out at the same time as the releases of the films to help contain spoilers.

This is not Hidalgo’s first rodeo, as he has written and been involved with a good portion of these visual guides over the years, recently including both The Force Awakens: Visual Dictionary and Star Wars: Rogue One: The Ultimate Visual Guide

Hidalgo has been involved with writing for Star Wars since 2000, then promoted to a member of the Lucasfilm Story Group for Star Wars. In a panel on a Disney cruise promoting The Force Awakens, Hidalgo explained why he has such a hand in the writing of Star Wars content and visual guides.

Hidalgo explained that his job is to “help story tellers tell the stories they want to tell, while at the same time getting all the Star Wars details in that story accurate.”  He works with “directors, screenwriters, novelists comic book artist, Imagineers, and cruise ship designers now”, Hidalgo then jokes.

"We met with JJ Abrams very early on as we helped shape the story of The Force Awakens. And helped him define and come up with the story that he wanted to tell."

JJ Abrams, writer and director for Episode VII, used Hidalgo as a wealth of knowledge during the writing and filming of The Force Awakens.

"When JJ found out that I was a guy who knew Star Wars really well, I basically become his go to guy for all the Star Wars questions he had."

The same has been true while working with Rian Johnson for Episode VIII and the visual dictionary for that film.

These visual dictionaries offer a visual look at both main and obscure characters, as well as shining more light on them with detailed descriptions. They also provide a map of the galaxy on how it relates to these films and past Star Wars content by providing backgrounds on planets and organizations that will play key parts in that particular film.

Basically, if you want to know everything there is to know about that specific film, these books are for you.
