A major possible spoiler revealed for Star Wars Rebels season 4

The likely fate of a main character from Rebels season four accidentally revealed on Twitter…

Steven Melching, one of the writers for Star Wars: Rebels (and formerly The Clone Wars animated series) all but confirmed the fate of a major character from the show. Warning: MAJOR SPOILERS for Rebels season four follow, so proceed with caution.

On twitter, Melching dropped the spoiler that he now has deleted from his account, that the character who is none other than former Clone-trooper Captain Rex might make it all the way to Return of the Jedi.

The character (portrayed by actor Cliff Alliston) appeared in Episode VI and is named Nik Sant. He was nicknamed Gramps by his fellow Rebel soldiers.

Later, Melching replaced his original comment with a series of tweets, starting with this:

At Star Wars Celebration in Orlando this year, which I had the honor to attend, there was also a similar art design revealed at the Animated Origins and Unexpected Fates panel.

Thousands of fans were treated to this animation art that panel hosts Dave Filoni (co-creator/executive producer for Rebels) and Pablo Hidalgo (member of the Lucasfilm story group team) shared with us. I was able to snap this picture at that very panel:

The panel strongly hinted at what Melching possibly spoiled.

What does this mean exactly? Well if true, not only does it mean that Rex is going to don some fancy new battle gear, but also strongly suggests and nearly confirms that he will, in fact, survive until the end of Return of the Jedi. This means that Rex is with Han Solo, Leia, Chewie, and other Rebels during the Battle of Endor.

They are the team on Endor that disables the shield generator which is providing the shield for the (second Death Star). By disabling the shield, the Rebels are able to destroy the second Death Star and ultimately defeat the Empire.

Now, this is why the Star Wars canon and cohesive story telling is so important, by providing payoffs such as these. There was already enough hype and anticipation for the next season of Rebels, but this takes it to the next level.
