Andy Serkis (Snoke) on the dark, tense story in The Last Jedi

Actor Andy Serkis confirms the darker, more intense storyline in Star Wars: The Last Jedi…

The full cinematic trailer for Star Wars: The Last Jedi aired this week, and in that trailer, Supreme Leader Snoke — portrayed by motion capture actor Andy Serkis — stepped out of the shadows and appeared to be torturing Rey. In case you were living under a rock, in a cave, filled with mysterious Jedi artifacts, and happened to miss it, then here’s a refresher.

As you can see, Snoke looks much different than his shadowy hologram which literally filled the screen in The Force Awakens. Andy Serkis talked to IGN this week about the trailer, and how he thinks audiences will be moved by the tense storyline in The Last Jedi.

"I thought the trailer was spectacular, and very intense. It absolutely reflects the tone and the feel of the movie. I do think this movie is going to really surprise people with its plotline and story and its tension in it."

That should actually come as no surprise to fans who’ve watched both trailers for the film, as they show an older, seemingly shaken Luke Skywalker talk about ending the Jedi Order, as well as being afraid of Rey’s power in the Force. But what should seal the deal, as far as dark plotlines go, is this scene of Serkis’ Snoke torturing Rey.

Serkis goes on to praise director Rian Johnson’s vision for The Last Jedi and then fires off this neat little parting shot about him knowing Snoke’s backstory.

"Oh yeah, absolutely I know it."
