Each Star Wars movie has some variation of “I have a bad feeling about this” peppered in. But, was The Last Jedi the first without that classic phrase?

Star Wars: The Last Jedi ventured into the Unknown Regions, pulling all the stops in the latest saga film.

Rian Johnson takes many risks, paying major dividends with the result of the film. However, was he too bold, neglecting the famous Star Wars staple “I have a bad feeling about this” into The Last Jedi?

Before making this “big” reveal, let’s take a look and see where that line drops into each Star Wars film.

  • The Phantom Menace: Obi-Wan Kenobi: “I have a bad feeling about this.” On board the  Saak’ak above Naboo.
  • Attack of the Clones: Anakin Skywalker I’ve got a bad feeling about this.” On Geonosis, inside of the Petranaki arena.
  • Revenge of the Sith: Obi-Wan Kenobi: “Oh, I have a bad feeling about this.”  Inside of the Invisible Hand, General Grievous flagship.
  • Rogue One: A Star Wars Story: K-2SO “I have a bad feeling about th…” On Scarif.
  • A New Hope: Luke Skywalker: “I have a very bad feeling about this.” On the Millenium Falcon, approaching the Death Star. And, Han Solo: “I got a bad feeling about this.” Inside of the trash compactor on the Death Star.
  • The Empire Strikes Back: Princess Leia: “I have a bad feeling about this.” On the Falcon inside of the space slug.
  • Return of the Jedi: C-3PO: Artoo, I have a bad feeling about this.” Entering Jabba’s palace. And, Han Solo: “I have a really bad feeling about this.” On Endor, while being prepared as a meal for the “guests of honor.”
  • The Force Awakens: Han Solo: “I got a bad feeling about this.” On the Falcon, before the rathtars begin racking havoc.

The Last Jedi has a unique version of “I have a bad feeling about this,” one you would need an interpreter to understand.

During the evacuation of D’Qar at the beginning of The Last Jedi is where the phrase is uttered. The exact expression of it goes as such:

"BEEP-BEEP-BEEP-BEEP"

Our winner is the lovable BB8. Rian Johnson’s creativity weaves into the DNA of this groundbreaking and brilliant film.

Even with subtleties such as this phrase. It’s the scene at the very beginning of the film when Poe utters: “Happy beeps, buddy! Happy beeps!”

Once the dust settles, The Last Jedi will be known as one of the best Star Wars films in the history of the saga.

It just requires multiple watchings to understand and appreciate everything Rian Johnson did entirely, including BB8’s creative “I have a bad feeling about this.”
