Solo: A Star Wars Story’s Q’ira has a dark, criminal past

Though we don’t know much about the mysterious woman in Solo: A Star Wars Story, we do know that she has a seedy background…

One of the things I’m most excited about in regard to the upcoming Solo: A Star Wars Story film is finding out more about the mysterious Qi’Ra, portrayed by Emilia Clarke. She is obviously an important part of Han Solo’s past, but beyond that, we know virtually nothing.

However, a recently released figurine depicting an 18-year-old Q’ira has revealed some tantalizing spoilers concerning her past. The toy’s description says the following:

"“At 18 years of age, young Qi’Ra is already enmeshed in a life of crime, working for a gang on Corellia.”"

So, we know that Qi’Ra has a dark, criminal past. Who is this gang she works for? Could it be the Cloud Riders from the Extended Universe that we now know will be canonized in this upcoming film? I suppose we cannot know for sure until May 25th, but that would certainly make sense. One thing this definitely reveals to us: Qi’Ra is one scrappy lady who can obviously keep up with that dastardly smuggler, Han Solo!

Speaking of Corellia, the Amazon.com description for the new Star Wars book Star Wars: Most Wanted suggests that one link between Han Solo and Qi’Ra is that they both grew up on Corellia.

"“Set before the events of Solo: A Star Wars Story, Han and Qi’Ra don’t have a lot in common other than not having a lot. They’re street kids on the industrial planet Corellia, doing whatever it takes to get by, dreaming of something more. They each jump at a chance to prove themselves in the perilous world of Corellia’s criminal underbelly, only to discover they are on the same mission for the same unscrupulous boss. When the job goes disastrously wrong, Han and Qi’Ra are on the run–from pirates, a droid crime syndicate, the Empire, and their boss–and will have to learn to trust each other if they are going to survive.”"

This also reveals to us that Solo: A Star Wars story will not be the first time they’ve worked together. Could the unscrupulous boss they speak of be Jabba the Hutt who is rumored to be appearing in the upcoming film? We know Han Solo has had many a run in with the wormy gangster.

I for one am excited to read Star Wars Most Wanted and learn more about their past as well as their entwined future in Solo: A Star Wars Story. I am dying to know who she is to Solo and why she isn’t a part of his life beyond this film. Will we be introduced to this character just to watch her die? Or does she still exist somewhere out there in the galaxy? I guess we’ll find out on May 25th!
