Donald Glover celebrated the news of his casting as Lando Calrissian in Solo: A Star Wars Story in true Lando fashion!
Donald Glover is a smooth operator, making him perfect for the role of Lando Calrissian in Solo: A Star Wars Story, originally played by the equally cool Billy Dee Williams.
It would be easy to fall into the trap of trying to copy the portrayal of Billy Dee Williams for his variation of Lando Calrissian, but Donald Glover took another approach — revealing the details to Andi Gutierrez of the Star Wars Show in a recent interview.
He also approached the role of Lando from the perspective of a real Star Wars fan, which is promising.
"More from Dork Side of the ForceDaniel José Older named a High Republic Adventures character after someone specialHow animation changed Star Wars: Ewoks and DroidsKelleran Beq comes to Star Wars: Galaxy of HeroesThe Mandalorian’s Pedro Pascal becomes No. 1 on IMDb’s Starmeter for 2023Unwrapping the Star Wars LEGO Advent Calendar: Day 7You tend to do a better job of things as a fan. You have standards. You just know what you would had. If that happened, that feels wack… The day I found I got it remember, I bought a whole pizza and when home and watched Empire Strikes Back… You don’t want an imitation in this kind of thing. You just want somebody to exude that feeling, currently…"
Of course, he celebrated in this fashion, as only Lando could — or Donald Glover for that matter. The more hear from the cast, the more excited I get for Solo: A Star Wars Story, and hearing Glover provide his insight on the film raises that exhilaration to the next level.
Glover is mostly known for his role as Troy Barnes on the hit sitcom Community, but that’s just the tip of the iceberg in his real talents. The multi-talented Glover has a two Golden Globe Awards and two Emmy’s for his abilities not only acting but writing and directing the show Atlanta — the first black man to ever win an Emmy for his directing talents.
He’s also won a Grammy for his talents as a musician, going by the alias the Childish Gambino and now, is (unofficially) the “Childish Landino.”
Hip-hop is his primary choice of music, but boy, he can sure SING. If you don’t believe me, listen for yourself.
My favorite comment within the comments section reads:
“THIS GOT ME PREGNANT.”
If you can’t get enough, here’s another.
Now, he takes this unique talent into a galaxy far, far away, and we are indeed “so into you,” Mr. Glover as a young Lando Calrissian.
Who else is excited to see the “Childish Landino” in Solo: A Star Wars Story, which premieres May 25, 2018, worldwide?
Dork Side of the Force journeyed aboard the Falcon to the Hollywood galaxy, joining “Forces” with Denny’s, for the Solo commercial premiere. Check out our adventures!
Solo is going to be loads of fun, ya’ll. Strap yourselves in; it’s going to be a thrilling ride!
