Star Wars: Resistance revealed as the new Star Wars Anime-animated series

Star Wars: Resistance is revealed as the new Star Wars animated series, with guest appearances from Captain Phasma, Poe Dameron, and the adorable BB-8.

It’s official. I guess the rumors are true. We finally have the successor to Star Wars Rebels in Star Wars: Resistance. The storyline will take place in the sequel area, right before the events of Star Wars: The Force Awakens — according to the Star press-release.

Like Star Wars Rebels before it, the main character(s) of Star Wars: Resistance will be brand new to a galaxy far, far away — which is a good thing for the Star Wars universe.

Also like Star Wars Rebels, Dave Filoni will lead the charge with this new anime-styled series. Honestly, who else would it be?

Anthony Breznican, Entertainment Weekly’s Star Wars expert, dropped this bomb on us just moments ago — revealing all sorts of juicy details.

"Star Wars: Resistance will focus on Kazuda Xiono, a young pilot recruited to help spy on the First Order — coming into contact with such familiar figures as X-wing hotshot Poe Dameron and the menacing Captain Phasma. And Oscar Isaac and Gwendoline Christie have already signed on to voice their characters."

Through the lens of Kazuda Xiono, we will go behind enemy lines in Star Wars: Resistance, with the hot-shot pilot embracing his inner James Bond 007 — with guest appearances from some of our favorites. Who knows, maybe Kylo Ren will drop by for an unexpected visit?

Dave Filoni reveals his inspiration for the show, which goes deep into his family history.

"“The idea for Star Wars Resistance came out of my interest in World War II aircraft and fighter pilots. My grandfather was a pilot, and my uncle flew and restored planes, so that’s been a big influence on me. There’s a long history of high-speed racing in Star Wars, and I think we’ve captured that sense of excitement in an anime-inspired style.”"

An Anime-style Star Wars series is a bold, but a fascinating idea. Not only will it bring a fresh stylistic perspective for current Star Wars fans; it may bring a new audience into a galaxy, far, far away.

It’s unknown who will play the lead in Kazuda Xiono, but we do have a list of the full-cast for Star Wars: Resistance

  • Donald Faison: Scrubs
