Thrawn: Alliances, the second in Timothy Zahn’s trilogy, is available in stores, ebook and audiobooks today.

Timothy Zahn has brought Thrawn back to the Star Wars canon.

The second book in Zahn’s trilogy Thrawn: Alliances released today. The book takes place after the events of the animated series Star Wars: Rebels with Thrawn dealing with his biggest failure since joining the Empire.

Thrawn: Alliances begins ominously enough with Emperor Palpatine stating, “I sense a disturbance in the force.”

More from Star Wars Books

Thrawn has to team up with Darth Vader on an assignment from the Emperor himself. Even though both work for the Empire, they are rivals and are forced to work together in a threat against the Empire.

The partnership is interesting because the reader knows more than either one of them. We know Darth Vader is Anakin Skywalker, but Thrawn does not. He had met Anakin Skywalker previously and worked together, forming and easy friendship. So, it’s interesting that they are now paired up, but without knowing true identities.

Leading up to the release for the book and ebook, StarWars.com revealed two excerpts, which included a scene with Padmé. Will Darth Vader and Padmé cross paths?

One can hope.

If you haven’t caught up with the Thrawn books, now’s the chance. Thrawn’s origin story is revealed in the first book, showcasing exactly how he joined the Empire and a brief mention of his intentions. He rose through the ranks because he is a tactical genius and saw a number of successes even if they were unorthodox.

That book led into Star Wars: Rebels and how Thrawn ended up on Lothal.

Now, his story continues.

Thrawn: Alliances is in stores now in book, ebook and audio book form. Those who purchase the book from Barnes & Noble will get an exclusive poster of Padmé on Batuu
