Star Wars Resistance premiere sounds a bit Phantom Menace like

The synopsis for the premiere episode of Star Wars Resistance has been released and it’s causing some major flashbacks to Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace.

The latest animated series of the Star Wars franchise, Star Wars Resistance, isn’t out until later this year but plenty of details are being released in the run-up to the animated series.

Image reveals, character details, and more have been released and now the synopsis for the premiere episode has been announced.

A synopsis that is pretty disappointing actually. Instead of a few lines giving us a hint of what to expect, or maybe detailing the opening scenes, this synopsis pretty much tells you everything that is going to happen.

More from Star Wars Resistance

However, that is not the biggest gripe I have with it. The biggest issues is it sounds oh too familiar to Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace.

Here’s the synopsis;

"Resistance fighter Poe Dameron tasks young pilot Kazuda (Kaz) Xiono with spying on the First Order. At the time, little was known about the secretive organization and its strength. In order to fulfill his mission, Kaz travels to the space station Colossus, which is being used by many ships as a port to refuel and do repairs. However, there are also dangerous races taking place there. After Kaz bragged with his piloting skills at his arrival there, he is soon drawn into one of the races…"

Apart from giving everything away, it’s the last two lines that made me sit up and take notice.

"However, there are also dangerous races taking place there. After Kaz bragged with his piloting skills at his arrival there, he is soon drawn into one of the races…"

Have you made the connection yet? How it sounds eerily familiar to the podracing on Tatooine in Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace?

It really does sound like the opening episode of this latest animated Star Wars series is going to have some podracing, but in space, because that makes it better…..somehow.

Now I didn’t actually mind the podracing, I thought it was cool, exciting and exactly what Formula 1 racing should be like. I was also 9 at the time so it wasn’t really hard to keep me entertained.

I know a lot of people who didn’t like the podracing and certainly didn’t like Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace for various one reason or another.

So the question I put to you is this, is it the right way to go with Star Wars Resistance? Having a scene that sounds like it is going to be another podrace to start the series? Could it not potentially sink the new animated series from the very word go?

Next. Solo: A Star Wars Story is no longer the worst, as long you ignore a few details. dark
