Who could Keri Russell play in Star Wars Episode IX?

Keri Russell has been cast for Star Wars Episode 9 but who could she play? Let’s take a quick look at some of the possibilities.

Keri Russell is coming into the world of Star Wars as someone who can undergo “action and heavy fight scenes.” That doesn’t give us a lot to go on for who she may be in Star Wars Episode IX, but we didn’t have much to go on for Richard E. Grant either and we are all pretty certain who he is going to play.

So let’s take what little information we got, and the whispers amongst the fandom, and put together the possible characters that Keri Russell may appear as in Star Wars Episode IX.

A lot of fans are hoping Russell will come in as Mara Jade, something we have discussed before at Dork Side. Similar to Grand Admiral Thrawn, this is another Star Wars character that is welcomed and enjoyed by much of the fandom but has never appeared in any of the movies.

One of the biggest theories going around, apart from the Mara Jade theory, is that Russell will come in as Rey’s mother. A move that would have an already divided fandom divided even more considering the issue on Rey’s parents is supposedly resolved. There isn’t much to support the idea of this other than they have the same hair color.

Russell being one of the Knight’s of Ren is another possibility and one that would be welcomed more than Rey’s mother. Fans have wanted the Knights of Ren to appear for some time now and this could tie in nicely to the “action and heavy fight scenes” part of the role requirement.

Coming straight of the Knight’s of Ren theory, is the idea that not only will she be Knight of Ren but also Kylo Ren’s lover. Why this needs to be, I don’t know. I’m happy with Russell being one the Knight’s of Ren in Star Wars Episode IX and that’s it really.

There are many other theories going around on who she could potentially be? From the bizarre and wacky; she will be Ren’s lover who gave birth to Rey; to the more realistic; she will be the new Captain Phasma.

We are still a long, long way off until Star Wars Episode IX arrives and to be honest, I don’t think we will fully learn who she is until then. But it’s fun to guess.
