Star Wars Resistance: Why I’m excited for the show

Star Wars Resistance is the upcoming animated show from Dave Filoni. It’ll premiere this October and I’m excited to see how it turns out.

If Dave Filoni is involved in a new Star Wars show, you can bet I’ll be checking it out. While he wasn’t working on the day-to-day on Star Wars Resistance as he preps for The Clone Wars return, he still had some input. Star Wars Resistance will be here soon and it’ll be nice to have some Star Wars content while we wait for the next film and The Clone Wars.

It is geared toward kids more than The Clone Wars or even Rebels, but that’s perfectly fine. I’ve seen some complaints about this, but it is a show on the Disney channel, so it shouldn’t be surprising that kids will be the main audience. However, that doesn’t deter me from wanting to watch it one bit.

The animation is a bit different from the previous style used with Clone Wars and Rebels. I’m mostly excited about this show though because of the characters included in it. Oscar Isaac will be voicing Poe Dameron and he’ll have BB-8 by his side. Gwendoline Christie will also reprise her role as Captain Phasma. In addition to those, other characters will be voiced by Bobby Moynihan, Scott Lawrence and Donald Faison. Those are some fairly recognizable names from their previous works.

Although, it isn’t just the cast that has me excited. The show might be taking place just months before The Force Awakens. We didn’t get much of a background on Poe in the movie, so we’re bound to get more of that with Resistance. That’ll be nice to see and it’ll give more depth to his character. Plus, more BB-8 is never a bad thing.

While we don’t know a ton about the plot or where the story could possibly go from the first trailer, we know it is focusing a lot on various pilots. There will also be some undercover work going on, but the extent of that is unknown. I’m fine with not knowing a ton about the show just yet. I’m betting that they’ll release another trailer prior to the show premiering. In the meantime, though, I’m sure there will be plenty of speculation.

Star Wars: Resistance premieres on Disney Channel on October 7 with a one-hour episode. Be sure to tune in!
