The fate of the Skywalker lightsaber

This one isn’t actually a rumor, but an actual spoiler for Star Wars: Episode IX.

So don’t read ahead if you don’t want to know on the fate of the Skywalker lightsaber.

At the end The Last Jedi, Rey’s lightsaber was wrecked with the kyber crystal splitting in two. Rey needs a lightsaber, especially if she is going to be fighting Kylo Ren again. While she has force powers, she would be in a tough position with someone like Ren without a lightsaber.

So Rey’s plan – in at least part of Episode IX – is to repair the lightsaber.

We saw the lightsaber was broken in a prop that was featured on the Star Wars Show.

While we don’t have details on how Rey will fix the lightsaber, or even if it happens on screen, we do know that she has to fix it. This is actually an important step for Rey. While the Jedi order doesn’t necessarily exist anymore, the Jedi did create their own lightsabers.

Part of that was their training, but I also think part of it was to appreciate how the Force works and exactly the type of power Jedi can wield when their energy is harnessed.

Rey didn’t ever have to make a lightsaber. She received the Skywalker lightsaber from Maz Kanata who had it sitting in the basement of her establishment waiting for someone like Rey to walk into her place.

Fixing the lightsaber, I feel, brings Rey into the next step of her training, one that she will need in order to defeat the First Order.

Rumor level: Very high

This broken lightsaber was confirmed in the Star Wars Show. It’s repair was a spoiler given to us by Making Star Wars, which has been incredibly reliable when it comes to rumor and spoilers for anything related to Star Wars.
