Star Wars: 25 most empowering female characters of all-time
7. Jyn Erso
Jyn Erso led a sad life from the moment she was born to the moment her spirit become one with the force. She was born in captivity and her parents spent most of her young life on the run, hiding from the Empire. Then, she became a ward to a terrorist and aimlessly roamed the galaxy with no one and nowhere to go.
She finally found purpose with the Rebellion – all in the name to save her father and his reputation.
Despite all of that, Jyn made the ultimate sacrifice when she didn’t have to. She made the right choices, even when they were hard. She inspired others around her to fight with her even when they were told not to.
It’s too bad we only got a small bit of Jyn, but even so Rogue One was a stellar addition to the Star Wars universe – becoming a neat way to inspire future rebels (even if her story didn’t technically exist when original trilogy had been created).
Of everything that Jyn did, she never backed down from danger. That’s what fascinated me about the character. She constantly walked right up to the line and met danger head on.
It might be because she had nothing left to lose, but even so, Jyn didn’t have to fight the Empire when she seemed indifferent to it before the events of Rogue One.
But the part that always got me was how she looked at her destruction head on. Jyn allowed herself to open up in the final moments of her life while the Death Star blow barreled down on her. She started her demise down with eyes wide open.
For all the hurt and sadness, Jyn Erso had been dealt, she’s one of the strongest characters in the Star Wars universe.
