Avengers: Endgame only needed six hours to break Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ record as the top pre-sale movie of all time.

Ticket sales for Marvel’s Avengers: Endgame went on sale and nearly broke the internet. Fans waited anxiously to buy opening day/weekend tickets online but ticketing sites like Fandango, AMC, and Atom experienced unprecedented crashes and long queues, drawing comparisons to opening day for Coachella tickets.

Fandango’s top five pre-sale movies includes three Star Wars titles: The Force Awakens (2015), The Last Jedi (2017), and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (2016). The three films are neatly sandwiched by the two most recent Avengers films, Endgame (2019) and Infinity War (2018). All five are properties of the Walt Disney Company.

“Not only did #AvengersEndgame become the biggest pre-sale title ever in the first 24 hours, but it accomplished this feat in only six hours. A groundbreaking and historic accomplishment,” said Erik Davis, Fandango Managing Editor.

More from Rogue One: A Star Wars Story

The Force Awakens remains the third-highest grossing film of all-time with $2.068 billion. The Last Jedi is the eleventh highest grossing film of all-time with $1.333 billion. Rogue One is the 28th highest grossing film of all-time with with $1.056 billion.

Avengers: Endgame culminates the end of 22 films and 11 years of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Director, Joe Russo, also stated that Endgame would feature Stan Lee’s final cameo.

Star Wars has an opportunity to once again crack the top five pre-sale list with its upcoming and still untitled film, currently referred to as Episode IX, slated for release in December 2019. Despite mixed and polarizing reactions for The Last Jedi and underachieving box office numbers for Solo, fan interest for the final installment of the Skywalker saga remains high.
