Star Wars: Allegiance hints to Resistance allies in The Rise of Skywalker
The synopsis for the comic mini-series Allegiance could reveal one of the Resistance’s most important allies in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.
May the fourth granted Star Wars fans with the announcement of the Journey to The Rise of Skywalker books and comics. While these stories surely won’t give away anything major about The Rise of Skywalker, they will certainly help set the stage for the final film in the Skywalker saga.
The announcement included a brief synopsis of each upcoming book or comic. One of the most intriguing synopses was for the comic mini-series Allegiance:
"“On the run since the destruction of the Starkiller Base, General Leia and the remaining handful of Resistance have barely managed to survive, much less strike back against the superior forces of the First Order. Running low on options, Leia decides to reach out to her former allies, the Mon Calamari, whose shipyards once powered the Rebel Alliance.”"

There’s been a great deal of speculation about which allies the Resistance contacted on Crait in The Last Jedi, and if these allies will help strengthen the Resistance in The Rise of Skywalker. Leia’s decision to turn toward the Mon Calamari certainly hints that they were one of the allies contacted in The Last Jedi, and the events of Allegiance will set them up to be one of the Resistance’s key allies in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.
The Mon Calamari have been integral to the success and survival of both the Rebel Alliance and the Resistance in the past. Admiral Raddus was crucial to the Rebel Alliance acquiring the Death Star plans during the Battle of Scarif in Rogue One. Admiral Ackbar, of course, helped lead the Rebel Alliance to victory during the Battle of Endor in Return of the Jedi. Ackbar went on to play a role in the New Republic and the Resistance, though tragically lost his life during The Last Jedi.
In the memory of Ackbar, Raddus, and other Mon Calamari who’ve lost their lives in the fight against both the Empire and the First Order, they certainly have the motivation to join the fight with the Resistance.
The attitude of the Mon Calamari was clearly shown in Rogue One when the Rebel Alliance initially decided not to send ships to aid Jyn Erso’s mission to steal the Death Star plans, and Admiral Raddus still took his ships to Scarif as he felt helping Jyn in her mission was the right thing to do. It is that kind of strength and moral compass that powers the Resistance in their fight against the tyrannical First Order.
With Raddus and Ackbar gone, Allegiance could introduce fans to new Mon Calamari characters who will appear as part of the Resistance in The Rise of Skywalker. Through their shipyards, the Mon Calamari can help the Resistance rebuild their fleet, and also fight with the Resistance as they work to defeat the First Order once and for all.
As a comic mini-series, Allegiance will be released in four installments over the course of four consecutive weeks, the first of which will be published on October 9th.
