Did you know there was a Star Wars video game featuring Darth Maul that was never released? The game was being developed by Red Fly Studio just before the Lucasfilm merger with Disney.

The video game would begin with Darth Maul at a very young age before he became Sith and before the events of Star Wars Episode I The Phantom Menace. The story would follow Darth Maul’s path to the dark side at the guidance of the Emperor, Darth Sidious.

As the player, you would be required to make decisions as Darth Maul and to see first-hand how it might have been for Maul before he became Darth Sidious’ apprentice.

More from Star Wars Video Games

Dan Borth of Red Fly Studio did both a Reddit AMA and a number of interviews with different gaming magazines to get support for the cancelled game. He also confirmed Red Fly Studio was aiming to put together a video game demo to pitch to EA. There was even a petition to  bring the game to life but it had very little support, mostly because a lot of the more devoted fans probably didn’t even know the game was even in development.

Stumbling upon a random video game article about a Darth Maul game most people had never heard of is a sure sign this game lacked publicity in a big way. Even during development, most game studios will do its bit to market the game and try to gain interest from the public. With a huge fans base to appeal to, you would think that task wouldn’t be too difficult to achieve.

With the release of Star Wars Battlefront, the idea of revitalising the Darth Maul game now seems almost redundant. Over the years, Darth Maul has proven to be a popular character with Star Wars fans and continues to be a fan-favorite. Maul’s albeit brief scene in Solo was a nice surprise for die-hard fans of the Sith lord.

Could the Battlefront games be the final curtain for Maul or do you think there may be more room for him to feature in upcoming projects? Let us know what you think in the comments below.
