Have patience: Ewan McGregor’s KENOBI series is happening — but not yet

Kathleen Kennedy and Ewan McGregor have officially confirmed a Star Wars: Kenobi series is coming to Disney+. But the wait isn’t quite over yet.

Ever since Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith completed the prequel trilogy and John Jackson Miller’s Kenobi novel continued the story, we’ve been waiting for news of a movie or TV show focused on Obi-Wan. And we’ve hoped (maybe even prayed) Ewan McGregor would be involved.

Rumors have flared up more than once claiming something was happening. But until recently, these speculations eventually died out.

More from Disney Plus

But this time around, the rumors felt different somehow.

Over the past week and a half, speculations circled back around again. Major news outlets even started “confirming” Ewan McGregor was returning to Star Wars, even though nothing was technically official.

Well it’s offical now. It’s really happening. Ewan McGregor will reprise his role as Obi-Wan Kenobi in the form of a limited series on Disney+.

Scripts for the limited series are ready to go, and filming should begin sometime in 2020.

Considering how long we’ve been waiting for Ewan to make an official return to the franchise, waiting until late next year or even 2021 really isn’t so bad.

Honestly, we’ll do what we must, as long as it means we get to see Ewan’s face and he’s wearing his Jedi robes and oh my God guys it’s really happening.

Some sources are reporting that the series will take place after the events of Solo: A Star Wars Story. We want nothing more than to learn more about Kenobi’s time spent on Tatooine before A New Hope, but we’ll see what happens. We’ve been blessed. Let’s not get too greedy.

Beyond McGregor’s involvement and when the show starts shooting, there isn’t much else we know.

But when we do, we’ll make sure to keep you in the loop.

Were you expecting an official announcement at D23 this weekend? Did you scream as loud and cry as hard as we did when we heard the news? Be honest.
