Star Wars: Will we finally learn more about Poe Dameron is Episode IX?

Is it time for Poe Dameron to get his turn in the spotlight? Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker might give us the back story on one of our favorite fly boys.

Each of the Star Wars sequel movies so far has taught us about our new heroes. The Force Awakens gave us info on Finn’s background. We learned more about Rey in The Last Jedi.

As charming and competent Poe is, we actually don’t know that much about him. On screen, his background hasn’t been revealed.

That should change in The Rise of Skywalker. The final movie in the Skywalker Saga should give us more information on the top pilot who has aspirations on leading the Resistance.

Warning: Minor potential spoilers ahead, but if you’re looking to remain 100 percent spoiler free, head back now.

Oscar Isaac, the actor who plays Poe, alluded to that while at D23 Expo and in recent interviews. He told ET Canada:

"“Particularly with Poe, I think people will be surprised to see that he has a bit more of an ambiguous past. He’s not just kind of that squeaky-clean flyboy.”"

I never got the impression Poe was squeaky clean. He struck me as the type who be willing to do what it takes no matter the circumstances – you know, like trying a mutiny against the remaining forces of the Rebellion.

But the other bit of news that came out during D23 was that Poe and Zorii, the character played by Keri Russell, know each other. That’s how she is introduced into the story. It also wasn’t implied that they are just friends. (Russell and Isaac also did their red carpet interviews together during D23, linking their characters again.)

It seems there was a bit of romance involved in their past.

Zorii is a thief, which we leaned in the Vanity Fair shoot, which then makes you wonder more about Poe. If this is the type of person he was traversing the galaxy with, perhaps his ambitions weren’t always so pure.

There is definitely a lot more to him than has been shown on screen. Reading the comics has offered us a little more insight into him.

Perhaps the Resistance Reborn novel, due out on November 12, will provide more background for Poe Dameron. While the novel takes place between The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker, there is still room to add background info where needed.

Poe has been a fun and interesting character who hasn’t gotten enough love, so far, in the Star Wars sequel trilogy. Episode IX should be his time to shine.
