Star Wars Rebels ended on a massive high and we saw the fates of most of the Ghost crew. However, is there a sequel series coming?

Star War Rebels was the show that captured our hearts when Star Wars: The Clone Wars got cancelled after the Disney-Lucasfilm buyout. We saw the lives of a ragtag crew of The Ghost as they fought against the Empire.

Now, it appears that a sequel series might be in the works and may debut this year after Star Wars Resistance wraps its second and final season. But, how true are the rumors and what could the series be about?

More from Star Wars Rebels

The first reports

The original report came from a YouTube channel called Kessel Run Transmissions: A Star Wars Network. Then a lot of media outlets followed suit including Comic Book and The DisInsider. While this is exciting, there’s been no official source detailing whether this news is truth or just a piece of fake news. However, Comic Book is a pretty accurate source.

If the rumors are true, what could the series be about?

You can’t have any Rebels sequel without the Ghost crew. However, we saw them go their separate ways at the end of the original show. Sabine joined Ahsoka in seraching the unknown regions for Ezra. Zeb and Kallus went to join the remaining Lasat on Lira San while Hera raised her and her late partner Kanan’s son, Jacen onboard the Ghost alongside Chopper.

A sequel could be an anthology series where each episode follows a group of characters on a journey after the Battle of Endor but the plot is still connected to a bigger story. If it’s not, then it could go virtually anywhere. One suggestion we would love to see is a massive expansion of Jace Syndulla since he was only introduced in Sabine’s closing monologue.

It would also be nice if the series followed Ahsoka and Sabine in their quest to find Ezra and Thrawn. It would be super cool, if it focused on Zeb and Kallus too. They’d become close friends by the time of Season 4 so it’d be something if there was more on their friendship. Though, it wouldn’t be the same without Hera having to break them up as she did with Ezra.

There are so many possibilities for a sequel series that we wish we could take about them more. Though we really need to get into what Dave Filoni says.

Dave Filoni coy on Ahsoka and Sabine’s retrurn

According the aforementioned Comic Book article, Star Wars Rebels creator, Dave Filoni admitted that he was excited that Ahsoka got some spotlight in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. With Resistance wrapping up, he’s remained coy as to whether Ahsoka and Sabine will appear in the final episodes while still looking for their missing friend.

Perhaps this is where the final episodes of Resistance will lead into the Rebels sequel series. Since the Skywalker Saga is over, there’s plenty of galaxy out there for the Lucasfilm Story Group to play with, especially since most the Ghost Crew is still alive. Also, if the series isn’t a sequel, it might dive into what Ahsoka was doing whenever she was absent during Rebels Season 2 and after discovering Anakin’s fall to the dark side.
