The trailer for the final season of Star Wars: The Clone Wars has brought plenty of excitement— including a surprising, yet welcome cameo.

Season 7 of The Clone Wars has been one the most anticipated Star Wars projects since Disney+ was announced. The momentum has only grown with the release of the latest and likely final trailer, which included a surprise appearance from a character who made their name in Star Wars Rebels.

That character is none other than Kanan Jarrus.

More from Star Wars: The Clone Wars

In one sequence, the trailer shows a meeting between Jedi masters including Mace Windu, Yoda and in hologram form, Ki-Adi Mundi, Aayla Secura, and Plo Koon. This meeting includes two additional holograms— Depa Bilaba and her apprentice,  Caleb Dume.

We follow Kanan Jarrus, formerly Caleb Dume, in Rebels as part of the Ghost crew. While Rebels certainly centered around the introduction and growth of the Force-sensitive Ezra Bridger, you could argue the show was equally about Kanan’s growth as a Jedi and the ability to move on beyond his self-doubt and the past.

Kanan was a padawan during the Clone Wars and didn’t make it to knighthood by the time Order 66 rolled around. However, Kanan became an incredibly compelling character as he learned to strengthen his relationship with the Force. He underwent a number of difficult trials and took on Ezra as an apprentice, despite not yet completing his own training.

Dave Filoni’s work on both Clone Wars and Rebels makes a crossover between characters hardly surprising, given that Ashoka’s inclusion in the latter was a highlight of the series. While it’s extremely doubtful young Caleb Dume has any prominent role in the final season of Clone Wars, it is still nice to see the continued connection between the two beloved Star Wars series. Season 7 will hopefully bring much-needed closure to an incredible TV show.
