A brand new Star Wars Disney+ documentary series has been announced, and just in time for Star Wars day.

A brand new documentary series covering the newest part of the Star Wars universe has been unveiled for Disney+. Disney Gallery: The Mandalorian will give fans a peek behind the curtain that is one of the most talked about television series in recent times.

Disney Gallery: The Mandalorian will see Jon Favreau, the series’ creator and an Executive Producer, alongside members of the cast and crew, take a look behind the scenes of the first live-action Star Wars television series. Through interviews, previously unseen footage, and round table discussions, different areas of the series will be discussed over eight episodes. The series willl premiere on May 4 on Disney+, which you can stream here.

Speaking of the series, Favreau said:

"“Disney Gallery: The Mandalorian is an opportunity for fans of the show to take a look inside and get to see a different perspective, and perhaps a greater understanding, of how The Mandalorian came together and some of the incredibly talented contributors throughout Season One. We had a great experience making the show and we’re looking forward to sharing it with you.”"

Full details of the series can be found on starwars.com.

The series announcement is, of course, very welcomed. The Mandalorian itself is very good, so any opportunity to revisit that world is something I’ll absolutely jump at the chance to do.

What’s most exciting is the premise of the series itself. Recent history shows how enjoyable and well made Star Wars “making of” documentaries can be. Secrets of The Force Awakens, The Director and the Jedi, and The Skywalker Legacy were all very well received, so an eight-part series focusing on a series feels like the natural evolution.

While we can only speculate at this moment, it’s not too difficult to imagine the final season of The Clone Wars, and the upcoming Cassian Andor and Obi-Wan Kenobi series’ getting a similar treatment.

For now, however, we’re excited to see how the first season of the series was put together. Episode One will premiere on Star Wars day, May 4th, with new episodes released each Friday following.
