In the newest tale, the villain stumbles across a startling discovery. A woman bearing a striking likeness to his late spouse shows up and throws his entire mission into disarray. Throwing away his wish to find who kept his son a secret from him, the fallen hero joins the interloper in her mission to examine how and why the senator died.
The second issue ends with the pair heading for Naboo to pay a visit to Padmé’s grave.
Vader and his droid companion, Zed Six-Seven realize the woman is not the late senator but her decoy, Sabé who served her during her days as monarch. What’s interesting is the term Queen’s Shadow.
For anyone who isn’t up-to-date with everything with Amidala’s story, Vader’s mention of Sabé being a red herring is a nod to E.K. Johnston’s 2019 book of the same name.
In the novel’s epilogue, the handmaiden receives word of the loss of life and goes with Captain Tonra to investigate their friend’s passing. However, that is the last we know about them until Sabé’s appearance in the first issue.
The conclusion takes place in 19BBY around the time of the politician’s funeral, but it’s not stated if this occurred before or after the senator’s farewell. Will the investigation have gone cold almost 25 years later? Could Vader stab her in the back or vice versa?
From what the synopsis says, the duo journey to the onetime sovereign’s place of burial. Vader has been to the site in Legends, but it might be different in Canon.
