More from Star Wars Directors

Fans have already been teased with the happenings in the underbelly of the capital of the Republic (and later Empire). During the final season of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, a four-episode arc featuring Ashoka along with Trace and Rafa Martez gave a glimpse into the life of those who live below the surface.

Attack of the Clones also featured a short peak into civilian life on Coruscant in an early scene where Anakin and Obi-Wan are searching for bounty hunter Zam Wesell in a crowded bar in the lower levels.

Other than those two small entries, we do not know much about the day-to-day happenings of Coruscant or much about the planet as a whole. The planet was described in The Phantom Menace as being one giant city. With that being said, there is certainly no shortage of stories to tell.

There was a video game that was supposed to feature this very setting entitled “Star Wars: 1313” but the game was canceled in 2013 after Disney’s acquisition of Lucasfilm.

Exploring this area of Star Wars would bring a sense of novelty and depth to the already massive franchise. Fans are familiar with the Jedi Order by now and while those stories are compelling in their own right, a closer look into Coruscant’s regular inhabitants could give viewers a new sense of understanding of the Star Wars mythos.
