Star Wars side character No. 8 — Babu Frik

There was really no doubt that on a list of best side characters that Babu Frik would appear. The wee little droid hacker, who shows up in The Rise of Skywalker, is truly memorable. He is tasked with allowing Threepio to be able to translate Sith writings and has to wipe the droid’s memory to do so.

He does this task easily and the best part about it is the way Frik talks. He speaks in this muffled and very laid back kind of voice. He almost sounds like a stoner and one wonders if he can complete the job he’s asked to do.

Frik is one of the most light-hearted parts of The Rise of Skywalker. When he reprograms Threepio he’s the first to say hello to him, and in Threepio’s mind, he is considered one of his longest friends. Fans were worried sick about Frik, when later in the film, the planet Kijimi is destroyed by the First Order. Thankfully, he shows up at the end in Zorii Bliss’s ship during the final battle, and we can all hope this isn’t the last we’ll see of this adorable little droid hacker.
