Latest Star Wars rumor says Rian Johnson trilogy is still on … of course it is

It feels as though every week, a new outlet is reporting Rian Johnson’s Star Wars trilogy is still on. Or that it’s in danger. But then it’s back again.

The only announcement Lucasfilm ever made about the trilogy was that it was happening. That’s not to say rumors aren’t true, but it feels as though some fans have an extra stake involved when it comes to Rian Johnson.

Why is that?

Much of stems from the disappointment some fans had over The Last Jedi. Some of the complaints ranged from that it didn’t feel as though the continuity held up from one movie to the next. It certainly did things differently and — the thing that probably hurt the most — Luke Skywalker died.

Some Star Wars fans were so angry over The Last Jedi, the vowed to stop spending money on the movies and took to social media to angrily voice their opinions whether or not they had merit. Much of their anger was focused on Johnson (and some actors who didn’t deserve the ire).

So every chance they get, these fans will call for Johnson’s head. Or at least his eventual Star Wars trilogy killed.

As of right now, Johnson’s trilogy is still on. These feels like a broken record and that’s cause it is. We wrote about here and here.

Getting more movies from Johnson is a good thing. Whether you love The Last Jedi or not, it was filled was great moments and it visually stunning. It told a different type of Star Wars story, but one that felt more grown up and come with consequences.

Additionally, giving Johnson is own story rather than trying to shoehorn one into the middle of a trilogy and a much longer saga is probably a better move. He has proved to be an adept storyteller and filmmaker.
