What will the next Star Wars animated series be about?

As much as Star Wars fans are missing The Clone Wars, it’s safe to say the series won’t be returning. It got a well-deserved reprieve and Dave Filoni finished the series in a perfect way.

The Clone Wars caught up to Revenge of the Sith and we saw what happened away from the action in the movie. Ahsoka’s storyline fit in nicely as to how she escaped Order 66 and just how the relationship between Anakin and Ahsoka strained.

More from Star Wars TV Shows

With that ending, there is a hole for fans of animated Star Wars shows. While live-action is certainly here to stay, there’s something that is delightful about the animated series. Perhaps it’s because they are able to use any story or character in a way live-action can’t.

Either way, there will be a new animated series at some point from Star Wars. Perhaps not this year, but one will be coming eventually.

If that’s the case, what type of shows could we see in animated form?

The Bad Batch

One rumor that recently circulated included having a spin off of The Bad Batch. They were featured in Season 7 of The Clone Wars, showing off their unique abilities.

Just because they had a few physical attributes that didn’t match up with the other clones didn’t make them expendable. They worked together to become a ruthless, fearsome team. And they were fun.

The Bad Batch could make for a fun spin-off, but you would have to wonder how long would they be able to make it last. The clones didn’t have a very long life span especially after Order 66.

Star Wars: Rebels sequel

Rebels ended with a huge cliffhanger in such a way that you knew eventually Dave Filoni will have to come back to it. These characters became one with us so much so that we look for them in all other Star Wars mediums.

Was that Hera’s ship in The Rise of Skywalker? Are Ezra and Thrawn coming back? What’s next for these characters? That’s something Rebels fans have always wanted to know.

A Rebels sequel would make a lot of sense and complete a story that is still wide open.

A new era

Perhaps the next animated series takes place post-The Rise of Skywalker. No one ever talks about what happens after the war is won, just how we got there.

Maybe there is room for a story on how the Republic was put back together a new generation of Jedi were born. After all, what ever happened to Broom Boy?
