The future of Star Wars: A complete guide to upcoming projects
New video games releasing soon
LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga
A new LEGO Star Wars game is on the way, and possibly very soon. In May, the official Star Wars YouTube channel posted a video that included a release date of Oct. 20 for the game before deleting the video and replacing the date with “coming soon.”
It seems like one of two things is true: A. The game is coming out on Oct. 20 but the company wants to have a bigger release announcement for it, or B. The game has been delayed, possibly due to the coronavirus pandemic. Either way, the wait will be worth it for this video game project that spans across all nine Skywalker Saga films.
Star Wars: Squadrons
The announcement of EA’s first-person flight-focused game came as a happy surprise to many who’ve craved a dedicated pilot experience. The gameplay trailer for Squadrons promises a lot to entice even a casual fan, from the movements of ships to customization options.
Players will have eight fighter vehicles to pick from, all with their own unique stats. The game’s flagship mode, Fleet Battles, features different stages that involve dogfights or assaults on base ships.
Squadrons is scheduled to release on Oct. 2 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
Jedi: Fallen Order sequel (and more?)
Respawn’s Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order received favorable reviews from critics at release. Fans were thankful to finally have another single-player Star Wars game experience. Fallen Order‘s cast was particularly likable and its story especially intriguing, making a sequel something to be in demand. And according to Kotaku, a follow-up game is already in the works.
Not only is there a sequel in development, but EA CEO Andrew Wilson has said that Fallen Order is the “first title in an entirely new franchise.” That points to EA wanting to explore more under the “Star Wars Jedi” name — possibly diving into more stories during Order 66 or even things outside of that time.
The High Republic
Star Wars books are some of the most engaging content involving the franchise. The length and freedom that authors have allows for incredible depth, details, and stories. The High Republic provides a new era of Star Wars to explore, being set 200 years before The Phantom Menace.
While the first book in The High Republic publishing initiative was set to release this summer, the project has been pushed back, with the first book by Claudia Gray coming out in January 2021. In order to make up for the delay, a teaser of The High Republic was recently released, which dives into the “galaxy-wide disaster” that will set the tone for the era.
The High Republic is an opportunity for new faces and stories within the Star Wars franchise, making it an exciting project for any fan to check out.
