After nearly a year of waiting, the release date for the latest addition to the LEGO Star Wars dvideo game series was finally revealed.

LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga will be released on October 12,2020. The game will be available on Xbox One, Playstation 4, Nintendo Switch and PC. The release date was first announced on the official Youtube Channel in a video entitled This Week in Star Wars. The report was later confirmed by IGN.

The newest installment in the popular video game series was initially announced in Summer 2019 at E3. When the game was announced, it was given a release date of 2020. As 2019 rolled into 2020, some fans believed that the outbreak of COVID-19 could have delayed the game’s production.

Luckily with the announcement, those fears have been put to rest.

The game is set to feature all nine films in the Skywalker Saga. The most recent entry of the series was 2016’s LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The new game will be a departure from the previous installments in more than one way.

A StarWars.com Q&A earlier this week with the game’s developer’s revealed that players can start their LEGO journey at any point in the timeline. There will also be no shortage of characters to choose from. In the same Q&A, managing director of Lucasfilm Games Craig Derrick said that the game will feature a cast of nearly 500 characters, and the majority of them are in fact playable.  The article also discusses the content of the newer parts of the game, specifically The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker.

With the completion of the Skywalker Saga films, this could very well be the last LEGO Star Wars game that fans see for awhile. For a series that is now 15 years old, it has stood the test of time as it is a major hit among fans of all ages.
