Star Wars: New animated series featuring The Bad Batch set for 2021 debut
Lucasfilm has announced a new Star Wars animated series coming in 2021
When one door closes, well, another animated series gets its chance. With The Clone Wars just ending, Star Wars announced a new animated spin-off is coming to Disney+.
The new animated series will star The Bad Batch, a group of clones who are little different than their clone brothers and have their own special set of skills that make them a formidable bunch. The series is set to debut in 2021 and will be aptly titled, Star Wars: The Bad Batch.

We met the Bad Batch in The Clone Wars. Perhaps there were some who didn’t quite understand the early arcs, but a spin-off might have been one of the goals that is now fulfilled.
The timeline takes place immediately after the finale of The Clone Wars, so they will be navigating through a galaxy that is rapidly changing. The Jedi are no longer in power, the Emperor is on top and the clones are now expendable having done their duty — Order 66. They have no boss, no mission. They only have each other.
What do they do next?
That’s what we are going to find out. If you haven’t been introduced to the Bad Batch yet, check out the final season of The Clone Wars on Disney+. You’ll learn more about them that way until the new series premieres next year.
If The Bad Batch is one spin-off, does that mean Lucasfilm has other characters spin-offs planned for the future? It doesn’t sound like this is the end of animation, but only the beginning of new stories that will be featured on Disney+.
"Giving new and existing fans the final chapter of ‘Star Wars: The Clone Wars’ has been our honor at Disney+, and we are overjoyed by the global response to this landmark series,” said Agnes Chu, senior vice president, Content, Disney+. “While the Clone Wars may have come to its conclusion, our partnership with the groundbreaking storytellers and artists at Lucasfilm Animation is only beginning. We are thrilled to bring Dave Filoni’s vision to life through the next adventures of the Bad Batch.”"
