The Mandalorian season 2 trailer is here and with it come a ton of questions.

It has been a long wait, but we now have our first trailer for The Mandalorian season 2. Mando is back and better than ever, with Baby Yoda right alongside, while a few fresh faces are set to enter the mix.

There is a lot to unpack here, so let’s get into it! Here are the five questions we want answered after watching the first trailer for The Mandalorian season 2.

Burning questions for The Mandalorian season 2

5. Where will the story take us?

The trailer presents some brand new locales that are bound to bring our heroes across the galaxy.

We knew Tatooine would be making a return, so no surprise there. But then we get a look at multiple Quarren on a boat, meaning we may be heading to Mon Cala, which sits on the Outer Rim alongside Tatooine. Most interestingly, we seem to get a look at Ilum, the ice planet home to kyber crystals for budding Jedi. Could the Mandalorian be bringing the Child on a Jedi’s journey of his own?

It seems a bit early for that, but it could also be possible that the Darksaber has enlightened Mando to the Jedi arts himself. The trailer mentions the long history of the Jedi, and Illum may hold a lot of the information about them that the Mandalorian wants to know. We can’t wait to see where else, new and old, this season takes us.

4. What is the Mandalorian doing with the rebellion?

Season 1 was very much isolated to back door bounty hunting, but season 2 seems to be bringing the Mandalorian into contact with the larger forces at play in the galaxy. The Razor Crest is joined by a squad of X-Wings, seemingly working together. Followed by the two zipping through the galaxy with a purpose. The question becomes, why would the Mandalorian join up with the rebellion?

It will likely have something to do with Moff Gideon. While the Mandalorian and his crew can clearly handle themselves, they cannot face the TIE Fighters and Death Troopers of the Empire alone. Since Mando appears morally on the right side of things, the Rebellion seems like a good place to go. Who knows, though, maybe Mando will ruffle some feathers and the quick flight in the clouds could actually be a dogfight?

3. What does the Empire look like these days?

We cannot mention the Rebels and Moff Gideon without talking about the Empire, who we get a peek at here. Despite the end of the second Death Star and Emperor Palpatine, the Empire is still very much at play here. We get a glimpse of some stormtroopers running through an Imperial corridor, scout troopers speeding around and another look at the Outland TIE Fighter. No Moff Gideon, though, meaning that he will have others doing his work, typical for Imperial leaders.

The power structure in the Empire is interesting to consider, here. Of course, they have a great interest in the Child, but for what reason? Perhaps season 2 will begin to unpack a bit of why and who, if anyone, is pulling the strings beyond Moff Gideon.

2. Who is the mysterious hooded figure?

The casting rumors for season 2 have been all over the place. While the trailer hides the big names, there is one notable appearance in Sasha Banks. The WWE wrestler turned actor makes a mysterious appearance in the trailer. It is not officially confirmed, but she is heavily rumored to be playing fellow Mandalorian Sabine Wren for her live-action debut.

It makes sense too, as Wren wielded the Darksaber herself in Star Wars Rebels, leading Mandalore in the fight to free themselves from the Empire. She ultimately rescinded that responsibility to Bo-Katan, who is also rumored to appear in season 2 as well. Moff Gideon now has his hands on the Darksaber, so he likely crossed paths with Katan and Wren to get it, causing them to play into the story in a major way. How is an entirely different question.

1. Who will make surprise appearances, and how will they play into the story?

The lack of major reveals begs the question of how many of the rampant rumors are actually true. Ahsoka is the clear omission here, but there are others to mention as well.

With the appearance of the X-Wings, we may begin to see some familiar faces in the rebellion,  Hera Syndulla serving as one example. And as the Mandalorian mythos continues, we may also see Bo-Katan and possibly Boba Fett, which sounds even likelier after seeing Sabine.

There is also the larger question of what Jedi will make an appearance. Thus far, the role of the Jedi at this point in time is largely unknown, which would be a fascinating point for this season to explore.

We also have to wonder whether these characters will appear as mere cameos or become integral parts of the story, which seems to be all about reuniting The Child with his origins. Either way, the big question for season 2 is who will actually show up, and this trailer does not bring us much closer to that answer.

Overall, as trailers often do, this one for The Mandalorian leaves us with more questions than answers. I, for one, am thankful for that, and can’t wait until Oct. 30 to see what more The Mandalorian season 2 has to offer.
