Star Wars: The High Republic’s launch is right around the corner, and Star Wars is teasing more to come already!

We’ve made it to the new year, and that means there are new projects ahead in the world of Star Wars — mainly, the High Republic literary series that Lucasfilm has been hyping up for quite a while now.

The series kicks off this week beginning with the release of Charles Soule’s novel Light of the Jedi, which comes out Tuesday, Jan. 5, along with a handful of other projects after that. So to celebrate this opening week for The High Republic, Star Wars shared more information about what’s in store for The High Republic not only in 2021 but in the years to come as well.

It started with a teaser that the official Star Wars Twitter account shared this morning with a video. An unnamed Jedi narrates the clip saying, “We are guardians of peace and justice. Beyond the stars is a near-endless frontier. Our order was meant to shine its light in even the darkest corners of the galaxy. There, we found an evil that none of us had trained for. That threatens all we know… For the survival of the Republic. The fate of all Jedi. For the control of Force itself.”

Star Wars also confirmed that (similar to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in a sense), the series will be released in phases. Unlike the MCU, these phases are already mapped out into a total of three. The first is titled Light of the Jedi — a title that we see matching the first novel of this series. The second phase of the series will be titled Quest of the Jedi, and the final phase will be titled Trials of the Jedi.

It’s likely that the final two phases will follow in their predecessor’s footsteps and will become the titles of books as well.

On top of that, Star Wars also announced new titles coming to The High Republic series. Already, they’ve shown us that there will be plenty of novels and comic books set to come out. But it looks like they’re taking a “the more, the merrier” approach to this by bringing authors to pen more than one literary project — though, honestly, you can never have too much to read!

For one, writer Cavan Scott will be taking on another project: the graphic novel The Monster of Temple Peak, with art by Rachael Stott. Justina Ireland will be writing the young adult novel Out of the Shadows. Daniel José Older will write the novel Race to Crashpoint Tower. And Viz Media will publish a new manga-like comic called The Edge of Balance, co-written by Justina Ireland and Shima Shinya with art from Mizuki Sakakibara.

For all the announcements, Star Wars held an almost hour-long live stream on YouTube that includes interviews with some of the High Republic authors. You can watch the full video below.
