Pedro Pascal teases different ‘timelines’ will affect the Star Wars TV universe
By Mia Johnson
Pedro Pascal teased what he could about The Mandalorian season 3 and shared that more surprises are in store for Star Wars TV.
Last month, The Mandalorian season 2 upped the ante when it came to the adventures of Din Djarin and Grogu. While the first two episodes took things slow, the remaining six episodes were filled with high-speed adventures that led to Din completing his mission of leading Grogu to his people, the Jedi.
What happens next, we don’t know for sure — and Disney+ has a lot in store when it comes to the Star Wars live-action TV universe. Not only will The Mandalorian be continuing with season 3, but we also have tie-in series like The Book of Boba Fett, Ahsoka and Star Wars: Rangers of the New Republic to look forward to. All those, in some way, will be shaping their own connected universe in which they’ll expand the Star Wars canon in ways we’ve never seen before.
That is, though, the Mandalorian actor Pedro Pascal knows what’s to come. And while he can’t share everything he knows, the actor was able to tease a little bit about what fans can expect from season 3 of The Mandalorian and the rest of the live-action TV universe. Here’s what Pascal said in an interview with IndieWire:
"I am told what’s happening and what the plan is, but I can’t share it. They are in the expansion of this world, where there are so many unexpected surprises and timelines that are going to be dealt with. If the character were to cross over into these worlds, it will be utilized in a way that isn’t meant to be expected. I wouldn’t want to spoil the surprise of whether or not characters from the show we already know are crossing over."
For someone who can’t share the plan, Pascal did say enough to pique our interest. And the “timelines” bit is the most exciting part. Right now, we know that The Mandalorian takes place during what’s now called the New Republic era. Will each of the other stories take place during this era, or is there something more to it?
The Book of Boba Fett, for example, seems like it will take place right alongside The Mandalorian timeline, seeing as the end scene in The Mandalorian season 2 finale seems to solidify that. And Rangers of the New Republic will also have to take place in this era since, well, the name of the era is right in the title. The only difference is that we’ve got about 30 years or so of New Republic time before the First Order kicks in, so the series could take place at any point in that timeline.
As for the Ahsoka series, all signs point to this series also running parallel to The Mandalorian timeline. That is, the latest rumors say Ahsoka will be a live-action continuation of Star Wars Rebels, and many think the series will be linked to Ahsoka’s search for Grand Admiral Thrawn and, subsequently, Ezra Bridger.
So, it will be interesting to see exactly what Pascal means when he says there will be different timelines in the Star Wars plan. We haven’t even mentioned shows like Kenobi and Andor, which could also be fair game for other series’ characters to appear in. This is one big Star Wars universe, after all, so anything goes.
