Daisy Ridley is not having it with a tweet sent by Texas Senator Ted Cruz just a few weeks ago. Yes, it seems weird to be in the place where Ted Cruz gets mixed into the daily Star Wars news with the likes of Daisy Ridley, but here we are.

The tweet from Cruz was sent on Feb. 11 in response to the firing of Gina Carano. The firing, of course, brought mixed reactions from fans both defending the firing and showing outrage, and Cruz was one of those fans showing his support for the latter.

In the tweet, the senator wrote, “Texan Gina Carano broke barriers in the Star Wars universe: not a princess, not a victim, not some emotionally tortured Jedi. She played a woman who kicked *ss & who girls looked up to. She was instrumental in making Star Wars fun again. Of course Disney canceled her.”

While Cruz never specified who he was talking about in regards to the “princess” and “victim,” many inferred that the princess referred to Princess/General Leia, the “victim” possibly referring to Padme, and the “tortured Jedi” referring to Rey. Following that, the tweet instantly went viral as fans were quick to point out that Gina Carano’s character, Cara Dune, wasn’t the only character for girls to look up to. And even Leia, Rey and Padme possessed admiral qualities that didn’t make them out to be the victims he wrote them off as.

During press for her latest movie, Chaos Walking, Yahoo Entertainment asked Daisy Ridley what her thoughts were on that tweet. Here’s what the actress had to say in response to it:

"I did not know, and I am very happy to be an emotionally tortured Jedi who doesn’t leave their state when it’s having a terrible time."

Clearly, Ridley had a little extra sting when it came to her response — referring to the senator’s other scandal this month when he was criticized for going on a trip to Cancún while parts of Texas were left in disarray following an unseasonal winter storm.

Both Ridley and Carano have been making big headlines this month. Carano, of course, for her firing from Lucasfilm and the subsequent fallout that’s occurred since — including the news of her upcoming film and her tell-all interview with Ben Shapiro. Ridley, on the other hand, has been busy promoting Chaos Walking, and she even recently revealed to fans what her next dream role is.
