Star Wars is known for having all kinds of interesting creatures, and the tree-tall Wookiees are among some of the more fascinating species out there. Of course, everyone knows the Wookiee Chewbacca, Han Solo’s right-hand man. But did you know that in Star Wars history, there’s a famed Wookiee Jedi?

Yes, just about any being can be Force-sensitive, even Wookiees! And during the High Republic era, the galaxy was graced with a kind and courageous Jedi Wookiee known as Burryaga. To help tell his story, Star Wars released a video clip profiling the new Jedi and how he fits into the Star Wars lore.

This is a continuous video series that Star Wars has released, and it’s one to help reads get to know who the many characters of The High Republic series are. Burryaga has appeared in both Light of the Jedi by Charles Soule and Into the Dark by Claudia Gray, and the video here highlights what Burryaga is up to in order to set up the events of those novels. Luckily, there aren’t any huge spoilers if you haven’t read the books yet — these tell you just enough information without giving too much away.

If you’d like to know more about the story of Burryaga and the other Jedi (and foes) of the High Republic era, we have two special breakdowns. We have a spoiler-filled, detailed synopsis of Light of the Jedi. And we also have a spoiler-filled, detailed synopsis of Into the Dark just in case you can’t make the time to read any of the High Republic novels yet.

If you haven’t gotten around to reading any of them, these books are definitely worth your time. The High Republic itself takes place 200 years before the Skywalker saga, but it does feel familiar and faithful enough to the Star Wars canon to be something new yet something still enjoyable at the same time.

The teaser about the disaster that Burryaga helps with is an exciting, nail-biting plotline that is carried throughout the High Republic books and comics — and it’s one you’ll want to follow closely as the series goes on.
