Rey and Kylo Ren managed to eliminate the final remaining heroes from the original trilogy. The new trilogy was meant to tell a new story starring new characters. But who knew it would kill off the final main heroes from the original trilogy?
Heroes that made Star Wars what it is. Gone. All taken out of the picture one by one, subsequently in each new film.
First, you’ve got Han Solo. Betrayed and killed by Kylo at Starkiller Base. Solo did nothing but try to bring his son back to the light. Be a family again. Forget about the past. But Kylo Ren clouded Ben’s mind apparently to the point where he didn’t need Han in his life at all anymore.
Next, Luke Skywalker, said to be the last known Jedi Master in the galaxy. Destined to restore hope, peace and freedom to the galaxy. Isolated on an island and reluctant to train Rey. Luke decides what is right at the last minute. Luke died after Force projecting his appearance from Ahch-To to Crait to face Kylo Ren in a lightsaber duel. Force projecting himself so far across the galaxy required every ounce of his energy and willpower.
Next is Leia. The princess and general of the resistance was very saddened by her son’s inability to return to the light. When Leia sensed the duel between Rey and Kylo Ren on Kef Bir, Leia used the Force to reach out to her son across the galaxy and call him by his birth name, Ben. This last act drained Leia of her remaining energy and killed her.
Finally, Rey is able to defeat the evil Sith Lord, Darth Sidious, known as Emperor Palpatine. The Emperor is the only one of the main characters that actually had it coming and need to be destroyed. Sidious deserved his fate. It took a lot of good people putting up a great fight to finally put the evil Sith down for good. At least hopefully for good, this time around.
So there you have it. Rey and Kylo (more or less Kylo) managed to knock off three heroes of the Rebellion and the New Republic and one Sith Lord. Thankfully Lando and Chewbacca made it out alive.
It is understood that to defeat the First Order and destroy the Sith, that sacrifices would have to be made. Most people expected better endings for characters they have loved since first watching the original trilogy. But you can’t always get what you want… ain’t that the truth.
