The cast of Indiana Jones 5 has gained yet another awesome star. And once again, they’ve added another Star Wars alum to help round out the cast.

Deadline has reported today that actor Mads Mikkelsen has joined the cast of the next Indiana Jones film. And this is nearly a week after Lucasfilm officially announced that actress Phoebe Waller-Bridge (the voice of L3-37 from Solo: A Star Wars Story) joined the cast alongside Harrison Ford.

Mikkelsen is a Star Wars alum by the way of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. The actor played the character Galen Erso, a scientist recruited by the Empire to help create the plans for the Death Star. Because of his disdain for the Empire, he included a self-destruct mechanism for the Death Star in its plans. And the rest of Rogue One follows the adventures of his daughter and her team on a quest to steal the plans from the Empire.

So far, we don’t know what role Mikkelsen will have in the movie directed by James Mangold. But we do know from past roles that Mikkelsen plays an excellent villain. In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, he played the foe to Doctor Strange, Kaecilius. In the Wizarding World, he’ll be assuming the role of Grindelwald from Johnny Depp in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them 3. And of course, his standout television role included a fantastic turn as the serial killer Hannibal Lecter in Hannibal. Needless to say, if Indy needs a villain, Mikkelsen is your guy.

Still, the actor has shown through Rogue One that he can also play a hero. And because he’s so talented, we wouldn’t mind if he had one role over the other — so long as he gets ample screen time!

Also returning to Indiana Jones from the Star Wars/Lucasfilm family is composer John Williams, which is just another magical touch for the film. And hopefully more details about the plot and the characters will be revealed once we get closer to the film’s release date, July 29, 2022.
