The long-rumored new Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic entry is reportedly being worked on by Aspyr Media, per Bloomberg journalist Jason Schreier. Schreier confirmed the plans in an interview on the MinnMax show.

Initial reports surfaced in January 2021 where it was believed a new entry in the beloved series was being worked on by a studio other than EA Games. This new information confirms that original report.

Here’s a summary of the game, per Steam:

"It is four thousand years before the Galactic Empire and hundreds of Jedi Knights have fallen in battle against the ruthless Sith. You are the last hope of the Jedi Order. Can you master the awesome power of the Force on your quest to save the Republic? Or will you fall to the lure of the dark side?"

Knights of the Old Republic remake

It is interesting that Aspyr Media is the studio behind the new title, which Eurogamer is reporting will be “more of a remake.” Aspyr has something of a storied history with Star Wars titles, specifically in porting older titles to newer hardware. Most recently, Star Wars: Republic Commando hit the Playstation 4 and Nintendo Switch, while they’ve also overseen ports of the Jedi Knight titles, Episode 1: Racer, as well as Knights of the Old Republic and Knights of the Old Republic II to mobile devices.

It remains to be seen, of course, to what extent this new title is a remake or a reboot. A report from January 2020 suggested that a new Knights of the Old Republic title would work to “integrate elements from the first two games, in order to bring certain things into the Star Wars canon.” That report suggested EA was behind the project, however, some of the information within it matches with the news information from Jason Schreier.

As of right now, nothing is absolute. We can only hope confirmation of the project, including information of which systems it will come to and a general release window, will be revealed sooner rather than later. For now, let the speculation begin!
