Obi-Wan Kenobi release date updates: When is the live-action show coming to Disney+?

Among all the upcoming television shows coming to Disney+ in the next few years, the Obi-Wan Kenobi live-action series has Star Wars fans most excited. Not only will Ewan McGregor reprise his role as the Jedi Master, but Hayden Christensen will also be returning to a galaxy far, far away to play Darth Vader. The inner child in me cannot wait to see these beloved prequel trilogy portrayals again on my screen!

The series is written by Joby Harold, who co-wrote Zack Snyder’s Army of the Dead, while Deborah Chow will serve as director. Chow already has experience working in the Star Wars universe with directing credits on The Mandalorian, as well as on popular shows like Mr. Robot, Better Call Saul, Fear the Walking Dead, and American Gods. As we’ve previously reported, the Obi-Wan show will take place 10 years after Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith.

When is the Obi-Wan Kenobi show filming?

After it was announced that the series would begin filming in April 2021, Ewan McGregor himself confirmed this month that filming was underway in Los Angeles. He shared the news during an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, as reported by Coming Soon, the same interview in which McGregor teased the inclusion of someone “very special” in the upcoming show.

Obi-Wan Kenobi show release date

The upcoming series currently doesn’t have a release date yet, but it’s likely to be coming out sometime in 2022. There’s still a chance the Obi-Wan Kenobi show could be released in late 2021, but we wouldn’t hold our breath. The Book of Boba Fett is confirmed for a December 2021 release date, and we’d doubt Disney+ would premiere two brand-new shows with this much hype at the same time.
