For those of us who grew up with the Star Wars prequel trilogy, Ewan McGregor will always be our Obi-Wan Kenobi, first and foremost. And with the upcoming live-action series headed to Disney+ all about our favorite Jedi Master and McGregor reprising the role, younger generations are about to fall in love with the three-time Emmy nominee just as many of us did.

While big details about the Obi-Wan show are pretty scarce right now, we do know that filming is underway for the premiere season and we should expect it to come out sometime in 2022. Set 10 years after Revenge of the Sith, the upcoming series is written by Joby Harold (Army of the DeadKing Arthur: Legend of the Sword) and directed by Deborah Chow (The Mandalorian, Mr. Robot). Fans are understandably incredibly excited for the show to be released, which will also see Hayden Christensen returning as the iconic Darth Vader. The hype is just so real!

So while we wait for more information about the Obi-Wan show, let’s take a look at a really fun Deepfake video posted to YouTube by user Shamook. In the video, which you can check out below, Ewan McGregor plays an older Obi-Wan Kenobi in the Star Wars original trilogy. The part, as fans know, was actually played by the late and great Alec Guinness in A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi.

Check out McGregor portraying the original series’ Obi-Wan Kenobi right below.

Alec Guinness was 63 at the time A New Hope premiered, so while 50-year-old Ewan McGregor won’t quite be that old in the upcoming Disney+ series, he’ll be closer to age to Guinness in the original trilogy than he is to his 28-year-old self when The Phantom Menace came out. Wild!
