Last December, we witnessed the emotional conclusion to the second season of the hit Disney+ show The Mandalorian.
Thus far, the core of the show has been the exploits of Mandalorian bounty hunter Din Djarin and his quest to find the rightful guardians of the Force-sensitive child Grogu. After the pair’s emotional departure in the most recent episode, it feels as though a major plot element has reached its conclusion.
So, what’s next for the first live-action Star Wars series?
What does the future of The Mandalorian have in store for Star Wars fans?
A big major arc that could be explored in The Mandalorian is the conflict revolving around the legendary Darksaber, a symbol of Mandalorian might and power. In the final scenes of the last chapter, we learn from Moff Gideon that the sword must be won in combat and cannot be simply given to a challenger. With Bo-Katan Kryze hellbent on restoring the lost glory of Mandalore, we may be in for a major clash of Mandalorian cultures in the third season.
Also possible is the exploration of Din Djarin’s own crisis of faith in regards to his own Mandalorian heritage. Djarin learned from Kryze that he is in fact part of a breakaway cult of religious zealots called the Children of the Watch whose beliefs resemble that of ancient Mandalore tradition.
With Djarin now freely removing his helmet in front of strangers, against his people’s custom, it is possible we could be seeing a lot more of the bounty hunter beneath the beskar armor.
However, with the show’s star, Pedro Pascal, recently revealing that shooting for season 3 has yet to begin, fans will be left guessing for quite some time to come. Next up on the Mandalorian roster is the spinoff series The Book of Boba Fett starring the clone bounty hunter himself.
Whether any major plot points from The Mandalorian will be continued in this new show is anyone’s guess.
