It’s that time of year again. San Diego Comic-Con has declared that the show must go on. And for the second year in a row, while they won’t be hosting an in-person event this summer, the convention will be brought online with Comic-Con@Home.

Events will begin starting as early as this Wednesday, July 21, and will run through Sunday, July 25. Like last year, the convention will be entirely free to the public, meaning all panels will be streamed online for anyone to watch. Though, as we learned from last year, this won’t necessarily be live streamed. It’s more likely that full panels will premiere at their designated time.

That being said, this is definitely a smaller convention compared to past years. And it even feels a bit smaller than last year’s At-Home con. So, where do the big players like Star Wars fit into this? Here’s what you can expect.

Star Wars: San Diego Comic-Con 2021

There will, in fact, be one official Star Wars panel at San Diego Comic-Con this year. Similar to last year’s virtual panel for New York Comic Conthis panel will be all about the High Republic series. Here’s the information on that panel.

Star Wars: The High Republic – We Are All The Republic!
Date: Jul 23, 2021
Time: 2-3 p.m. PT
Description:

"Star Wars: The High Republic authors Claudia Gray, Charles Soule, Cavan Scott, Justina Ireland, and Daniel José Older discuss the latest books and comics in this exciting new era, including The Rising Storm, Race to Crashpoint Tower, and Out of the Shadows. Plus, get a sneak peek at new reveals and upcoming titles. Moderated by Star Wars: The High Republic Show host Krystina Arielle."

So, there won’t be any official panels about the Star Wars movie and TV series. We’re guessing Star Wars dropped all the big guns during the Disney mega-presentation back in December. So there’s not much else worth revealing, perhaps until December of this year if Disney decides to do a big presentation like that again.

Similarly, Marvel Studios won’t be having a presence at the convention either. But this makes sense, seeing that if they want to do something virtually, it’s probably better for Disney to just do it themselves anyway. And if Marvel and Star Wars were to return to Comic-Con, they’ll definitely want to wait until fans and celebrities can all come together in person again.

But, if you’re looking for just one more Star Wars-related panel this weekend, then you’ll want to keep your eyes on the Science of Star Wars panel. This panel, which takes place on July 25 at 3 p.m., will feature a few expert scientists who will break down some of Star Wars’ most fascinating premises by exploring them from a scientific angle. It doesn’t look like a panel officially put on by Lucasfilm, but it should be a fun one for all the science enthusiasts out there.

Otherwise, there may be some Star Wars Comic-Con exclusives here and there. So be on the lookout for that over here on Dork Side of the Force. And be sure to follow us for coverage of the High Republic panel as that goes on!
