The War of the Bounty Hunters comic series comes to an end in October, and it’s gearing up to be an epic showdown between Boba Fett and the rest of the galaxy’s biggest players, who have been fighting to get their hands on a frozen-in-carbonite Han Solo.

Star Wars’ most ambitious comic crossover event is set between The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi and sees the Empire, the Rebel Alliance and a slew of bounty hunters and crime syndicates all vying for Han. It chiefly follows bounty hunter Boba Fett in his adventures between grabbing the Han slab on Bespin and bringing it to Jabba the Hutt’s palace on Tatooine. The series shows Boba’s journey was anything but smooth space sailing.

The series concludes with War of the Bounty Hunters #5 in October, and Star Wars recently shared previews of what’s to come in the finale, which is set to “change the face of the galaxy.”

Teaser from StarWars.com:

"Everything and everyone in the galaxy is against bounty hunter BOBA FETT, from Sith Lords to Hutt rulers to the mysterious CRIMSON DAWN."

"He can’t succeed. There’s no way he can regain HAN SOLO, escape the bounties on his head, and survive to get his prize to JABBA THE HUTT and get paid. But HAN SOLO belongs to him, and no one will take him away."

"With a shocker of an ending that sets up a revolutionary new status quo for STAR WARS COMICS!"

Besides the War of the Bounty Hunters conclusion, October also has the spinoff IG-88 #1 comic, which gives the spotlight to the notorious assassin droid as it faces its greatest enemy, Boba Fett, in the battle for Han Solo. Then, there’s Star Wars #18, which sees two of Han’s loves finally meeting: Leia Organa and Qi’ra. Star Wars teased that this meeting will be about the two women discussing Han’s influence on their lives and how he impacted the fates of their missions.

Solo character Qi’ra returned to Star Wars in June in War of the Bounty Hunters #1 as the new leader of Crimson Dawn, the crime syndicate created by Darth Maul. In that issue, it’s revealed Qi’ra and Crimson Dawn are the masterminds behind the conspiracy to undermine Jabba, Boba, the Empire, the Rebel Alliance and all the other bounty hunters after Han.

In War of the Bounty Hunters #2, Qi’ra throws a huge Scoundrel’s Ball to auction the Han Solo popsicle to the highest bidder. Based on that issue’s ending, there’s still a long way to go before Boba and Han make it to Jabba’s palace.

Other War of the Bounty Hunters tie-ins coming in October:

  • Doctor Aphra #15
  • Bounty Hunters #17
  • Darth Vader #17

New High Republic comics

The High Republic era of Star Wars — set hundreds of years before the Skywalker saga — gets its first comic miniseries with Trail of Shadows, written by Daniel José Older with art by Dave Wachter. The five-issue series was announced back in May as a “mystery fiction” story following a Jedi investigator and a Republic-basked private detective teaming up to uncover some secrets of the Jedi Order after a tragedy.

Star Wars shared a preview of the series:

"A Jedi Master is dead. Another is in a state of complete shock. It’s a murder the likes of which the Jedi Order has never seen before. There are no leads. There are no suspects. There is no motive. But Jedi Investigator EMERICK CAPHTOR must solve the case before it’s too late. The fate of the Jedi, the Hutts, the Nihil and everyone in the galaxy, hangs by this tangled thread of lies and deceit. Emerick will need to dive into the darkness, testing himself and his Jedi ideals like never before. He’ll need help. Luckily, Private Eye SIAN HOLT lives in the dark. Together, they’ll follow this trail of shadows wherever it leads. If they can work together, that is."

Also coming in October is The High Republic #10, which promises a new story of “The Shadow of the Nihil” following the events of The Rising Storm novel.
