Quentin Tarantino wants Adam Driver to play his Rambo in potential new movie
Just as Star Wars alum Adam Driver has been making headlines for his upcoming role as Maurizio Gucci in Ridley Scott’s House of Gucci film, fans are buzzing over what could be after director Quentin Tarantino revealed a part he envisions Driver playing.
The Pulp Fiction director recently stopped by The Big Picture podcast, according to Screen Rant, where he divulged some details about a film he could potentially make. While it doesn’t seem Tarantino is sold on this idea, he says he knows it would be a good one, making all of us Star Wars fans pay attention. Apparently, Tarantino has thought about making a new Rambo film.
Though there are no concrete plans in the works for this adaptation, Tarantino already has his two starring actors in mind. Here’s what he dished during the podcast appearance:
"“If I just wanted to make a good movie that I knew would be good, I would take David Morrell’s novel for First Blood and do the novel. Not the movie that was made out of First Blood. I would do the novel. And Kurt Russell would play the sheriff, and [Adam Driver] would play Rambo. Every time I read it, the dialogue is so fantastic in the David Morrell novel that you’re reading it out loud. It would be so good. But now, I want to do more than that. But if it was just about to make a good movie, that’s out there.”"
Following up Sylvester Stallone’s iconic role would be no easy feat, but we’d be confident in Adam Driver to bring his own interpretation to the part. After all, there is no doubt he’s a versatile actor, having gone from indie films to the Star Wars sequel trilogy and everything else in between. He’s scooped up two Academy Award nominations and we’re expecting more in his future. Continuing to surprise his fans with each character and project he takes on, playing Rambo could just make sense for Driver.
But of course, we’re getting ahead of ourselves here. Driver has a few upcoming projects in the works after House of Gucci, including a movie called 65 and a film helmed by Noah Baumbach titled White Noise. The latter will mark the fifth time Driver has worked with Baumbach after starring in Marriage Story and appearing in The Meyerowitz Stories, While We’re Young, and Frances Ha.
For Tarantino’s part, there’s no word on what his next project will be, although he promises it’ll be his last before he retires from directing. Driver has yet to collaborate with the famed filmmaker, and we’d be interested to see what they’d come up with.
