The Bad Batch season 2 is not coming to Disney Plus in 2021

Star Wars: The Batch Batch season 1 might be coming to an end, but there is a silver lining for those anxious for more of the newest Star Wars animated title! While season 1 is nearly over, The Bad Batch season 2 has been confirmed, meaning we can expect at least one more season of adventures with the Bad Batch crew!

Ahead of the show’s 2-part season finale, Disney Plus has confirmed a second season of its latest animated original has been given the green light. While not surprising given the success of the show since its launch on Disney Plus, the renewal was welcomed news for fans eager to know what the future held for the breakout series.

Although a second season of Star Wars: The Bad Batch has been confirmed, the unfortunate caveat to the news is that The Bad Batch season 2 won’t be coming in 2021.

When will The Bad Batch season 2 premiere on Disney Plus?

While a second season of Star Wars: The Bad Batch is in the works, Disney Plus has confirmed The Bad Batch season 2 will not be coming in 2021. As confirmed by the streaming service upon announcing the renewal, The Bad Batch season 2 will be coming to Disney Plus sometime in 2022.

At this time, Disney Plus has not confirmed the official release date for season 2 but it’s likely the streamer might take a page from Netflix and look to release the new season of The Bad Batch sometime in late spring.

As fans will recall, season 1 premiered on May 4 before settling into its Friday perch later that week on May 7. Considering May 4 falls on a Wednesday in 2022, it’s possible Disney Plus could look to once again release the premiere episode of The Bad Batch‘s new season on Star Wars Day and follow a similar release schedule for the show in airing new episodes throughout the summer.

How many episodes will The Bad Batch season 2 be?

Although Disney Plus has not yet confirmed the official episode count for The Bad Batch season 2, it is expected the show will be returning for another 16-episode season.

Of course, it’s possible Disney Plus could choose to extend season 2 in looking to bring fans a longer season but it seems likely the streaming service will instead look to bring fans another similar season in length and 16 seems to be a sweet spot for the studio.
