Skywalker appearing in a TV show as successful and highly viewed as The Mandalorian meant a lot to fans, whether they grew up loving him or have come to appreciate his character throughout their Star Wars fandom. But the experience of seeing him again on-screen couldn’t possibly compare to seeing Hamill portray Luke again in person, as those who were present on set the day the scene was filmed were lucky enough to witness.

In the clip, Filoni speaks to the impact the moment had on everyone in the room as the sequence was being filmed.

“You see your crew just staring at Mark [Hamill], and you realize they’re remembering what it meant to them … that you’ve been a part of constructing something that’s giving that experience to people. This ‘good feeling.'”

The special episode of Disney Gallery comes in the wake of The Mandalorian‘s 24 Emmy nominations. It was nominated for Best Drama Series alongside massive hits such as Bridgerton, This Is Us, and The Crown.
