In the dark, uncertain universe of The Mandalorian, The Armorer served as Din Djarin’s pseudo-guide through his first steps into a new journey. She is mysterious, a character with her face hidden behind a helmet who only goes by her profession. Beneath the helmet, Emily Swallow voices the fierce, wise Mandalorian. But even she’s keeping secrets about the popular Star Wars show’s third season.

When The Armorer didn’t return in season 2 of the series, it was easy to assume the character wasn’t needed to move Din’s story forward. But with Grogu (“Baby Yoda”) off to train with Luke Skywalker, it’s likely the new wielder of the legendary Darksaber will need some help from an old ally.

However, Swallow “can neither confirm, nor deny” that she’ll appear in The Mandalorian again, either in season 3 or any season that might follow — at least according to Swallow, who revealed this at last week’s Dragon Con (H/T to The Direct).

Will The Armorer ever return?

It’s quite possible that Swallow failing to give a straight “no” is a strong hint at a “yes.” But maybe it’s best we don’t find out the Armorer’s future in the series until we’re meant to. Though it may not always seem like it, surprises in Star Wars are still possible. Swallow’s character could show up out of nowhere to save the day, in a Bo-Katan in season 2 fashion, and many would be delighted they didn’t see it coming.

The mysterious nature of The Armorer leaves plenty of room for the show to expand on her character. But much of the interest lies more in what she knows about The Purge, Din Djarin’s past, and the Mandalorian sect they both come from. Put The Armorer and Bo-Katan Kryze in the same scene, and you might get a heated history of the fall of Mandalore from both devastated sides of its aftermath.

We’ve seen what both warriors can do with weapons. But perhaps the Armorer could also serve as a mediator between Bo (who wants the Darksaber) and Din (who has it but wants nothing to do with it).
